"Actors have secured UK and international roles directly using Monoreels footage."

What to Expect

Monoreels are cinematic monologue scenes designed around what casting directors actually look for on screen — natural performances, clarity of character, and confidence in close-up.

Whether you're updating Spotlight, applying for representation, preparing for drama school, or strengthening your casting profile, each session is built to give you material that works professionally.

Actors who’ve filmed Monoreels with us have gone on to secure major UK and international roles using their footage.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to bring my own monologue?

Yes — actors bring their own monologue to the session.

This ensures the material suits your casting type and the roles you're targeting.

Your monologue should be 1–2 minutes long.

If you're unsure what to choose, we’re happy to guide you. Some useful free monologue resources include:

  • National Theatre resources

  • BBC Writersroom scripts

  • Monologue Blogger

  • Published plays and screen scripts from roles close to your casting type

You can also adapt dialogue from film or television if it fits you well.

How long does the session last?

Each Monoreels session lasts approximately 1 hour.

This includes:

  • direction

  • performance shaping

  • multiple takes

  • framing adjustments

  • final capture of your strongest version

The goal is not speed — it’s getting the performance right.

Will I get direction on the day?

Yes.

Sessions are fully directed by BAFTA Connect filmmaker Daniel Alexander, whose work spans Netflix, BBC, ITV, Warner Bros, Apple and Amazon productions.

You’ll receive performance guidance throughout the session to help shape something that feels natural, believable, and castable on screen.

Actors regularly say this is the biggest difference between Monoreels and standard reel recordings.

When will I receive my Monoreel?

Your finished Monoreel is delivered within one week.

You’ll receive:

  • a high-quality master version

  • social-media-friendly versions

  • download links in multiple sizes

So you can upload immediately to Spotlight, agents, casting submissions, and online platforms.

What should I wear?

Please wear:

A plain black top (no logos or patterns)

This keeps the focus entirely on your performance and ensures a clean, cinematic frame that casting directors prefer.

Should I arrive camera-ready?

Yes.

Please arrive with hair and makeup already prepared.

Sessions are performance-focused, so we maximise your time on screen rather than in preparation.

Can I bring someone with me?

Absolutely.

You’re welcome to bring a friend, parent, or family member for support during the session if that helps you feel more comfortable.

Are Monoreels suitable for beginners?

Yes. We work with:

  • experienced professionals

  • emerging actors

  • drama school applicants

  • actors updating Spotlight

  • children and young performers

Sessions are tailored to your level and goals.

Why do Monoreels work?

Monoreels are designed specifically around how casting decisions are made.

Casting directors often want to see:

  • a clear close-up performance

  • emotional connection

  • natural delivery

  • believable screen presence

  • confidence with text

Traditional showreels can dilute this. Monoreels highlight it.

That’s why actors regularly use them successfully for:

  • Spotlight updates

  • agent submissions

  • drama school auditions

  • self-tape alternatives

  • casting introductions

And why several actors have secured high-end international work directly from their Monoreel footage.

Where are sessions filmed?

Most Monoreels sessions take place at our studio location in Birmingham.

Full address details are provided once your booking is confirmed.

Do you offer headshots as well?

Yes.

You can combine your Monoreel session with a professional headshot shoot from award-winning photographer Tenisha White.

Many actors choose this option to update both their Spotlight profile and casting materials in one visit.
