Daniel Alexander
Daniel Alexander is an award-winning BAFTA Connect filmmaker and director from Birmingham, UK. He is the creator and director of the viral horror feature Gale: Yellow Brick Road, a dark reimagining of The Wizard of Oz, which secured a major U.S. theatrical release across more than 1,000 cinemas through Fathom Events - a landmark moment for independent British genre cinema.
Daniel first gained international recognition after directing the official film for the Commonwealth Games Handover Ceremony, broadcast to a global audience of over 1.5 billion viewers.
Known for bold, culturally resonant storytelling, his work spans narrative film, documentary, high-end television, and branded cinematic campaigns. He directed We Are England (Series 1, Episode: Uncovering My Roots) for BBC One, broadcast at prime time as part of the channel's cultural documentary strand.
His documentary LEGACY - exploring the origins of rap and grime in the Midlands - premiered on Google Arts before being adapted into a symphonic orchestral performance
with the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra (CBSO).

Across film and television, Daniel has collaborated with major broadcasters and streamers including ITV, BBC, Warner Bros Discovery, BFI, and Tiger Aspect. He filmed the full ITV series Deep Fake Neighbour Wars, a pioneering HETV production that drew international media attention and celebrity commentary. He also serves as a second-unit director on ITV’s Riches (Band 2), and has directed documentaries for BBC One and Sky.
His commercial and branded work includes collaborations with Apple, Nike, Sony, Timberland, UB40 and the Commonwealth Games — reflecting a diverse creative ecosystem that blends music, culture, and cinematic craft.
Alongside his directing work, Daniel is also an accomplished cinematographer with over a decade of credits across BBC and ITV series, international feature films, and major commercial campaigns.
He curates the regional development initiative BACK IN — the Midlands’ leading Black film programme — and is the founder of the Midlands Film Archive as well as the creator of the colour-grading software CinePre.
Daniel’s industry contributions extend into education and sector leadership. He sits on the Board of Create Central, is an Associate Artist at the REP Theatre, and delivers training and workshops through BAFTA, BBC, BFI, and Apple. A mural of Daniel in Birmingham city centre recognises him as one of the region’s future Black leaders.
Defined by a commitment to access, opportunity, and creative ambition, Daniel continues to push regional filmmaking onto the global stage through a slate of original narrative projects, cross-disciplinary collaborations, and talent development initiatives.
