Short Horror Proof of Concept
APPLICATIONS CLOSED
Following the release of Gale: Yellow Brick Road, Daniel Alexander Films is now casting for a new short horror proof of concept, designed as the first step towards developing a larger genre project.
A group of young women spend the night inside a remote family home following a recent bereavement. As the evening unfolds, old wounds, private fears, and buried tensions begin to surface, turning what should have been a quiet night of support into something far more unsettling.
Set over one night, the film is a contained supernatural horror about grief, friendship, guilt, and the danger of inviting the past back into the room.
This is a performance-led horror piece with strong emotional material, psychological tension, and cinematic genre set-pieces. We are looking for actors who can bring naturalism, vulnerability, fear, humour, and emotional truth to the roles.
Production Details
Project: Untitled Short Horror Proof of Concept
Genre: Horror / Supernatural Thriller
Shoot Length: 2 days

Payment: Paid
Age Range: 19–24
Ethnicity: Any ethnicity
Production Company: Daniel Alexander Films

Roles
LEAH
Female, 19–24, any ethnicity
Leah is emotionally guarded, practical, and trying very hard to stay composed. She has recently lost her grandmother and has returned to the family home to begin clearing it out.
She carries grief quietly rather than openly. She is not weak, but she is overwhelmed, and the night forces her to confront things she has avoided. Leah is the emotional anchor of the film — grounded, conflicted, and increasingly pulled between fear, guilt, and responsibility.
We are looking for someone with strong dramatic instincts, emotional subtlety, and the ability to carry quiet tension on screen.
MAYA
Female, 19–24, any ethnicity
Maya is curious, thoughtful, and open-minded. She is interested in the unseen, rituals, and spiritual ideas, but she is not reckless or cartoonishly “witchy”. She believes there may be more to the world than people admit, but she also has a real emotional sensitivity.
As events unfold, Maya becomes increasingly unsettled by what she has helped awaken. This role requires an actor who can play warmth, fear, guilt, and vulnerability, while also handling moments of heightened supernatural tension.
We are looking for a natural, emotionally present performer with strong instincts for quiet horror.
TARA
Female, 19–24, any ethnicity
Tara is sceptical, funny, sharp, and defensive. She uses humour as armour and often tries to stay in control by making jokes before anyone else can get too serious.
Beneath the sarcasm is someone carrying deep unresolved trauma. As the night progresses, Tara becomes the emotional pressure point of the story. This is a demanding role with humour, fear, anger, vulnerability, and a major emotional reveal.
We are looking for an actor with strong screen presence, comic timing, and the ability to shift into raw emotional intensity without it feeling forced.
