Daniel Alexander

Driven by a belief that powerful stories can change communities, Daniel Alexander is a BAFTA Connect filmmaker, award-winning director, and cinematographer based in Birmingham, UK. Renowned for combining high-end cinematic craft with socially resonant narratives, his work has reached audiences in the billions — most notably through directing the official film for the Commonwealth Games Handover Ceremony, broadcast to over 1.5 billion viewers worldwide.

As the creator of the viral horror Gale: Yellow Brick Road — a dark reimagining of The Wizard of Oz that achieved multi-million views and international press coverage — Daniel delivers stories that transcend traditional release platforms. His documentary Legacy — featured on Google Arts and now being adapted into a live symphony orchestra performance with the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra — explores the origins of rap and grime in the Midlands.

Daniel’s television work includes We Are England (BBC One, Director/Producer), Riches (Amazon Studios, Second Unit Director), Deep Fake Neighbour Wars (ITV/Tiger Aspect, Director of Photography), and numerous BBC and BFI productions. His commercial portfolio features campaigns for Nike, Apple, Amazon, BBC, Warner Bros, Facebook, and BMW — blending brand impact with cinematic artistry.

Beyond production, Daniel has led countless training programmes for emerging filmmakers, partnering with BBC Studios, BFI, and other industry leaders to create direct pipelines of new talent into the screen sector. He has also served on multiple industry boards and consultancy groups, including being brought in by the BFI to help shape its funding strategy and by ScreenSkills to advise on its national funding approach.

This combination of artistry, innovation, and social purpose has established him as a filmmaker bringing community-rooted stories to the world’s biggest screens — and shaping the next generation of storytellers along the way.
